Strong line up at Stirling’s October Bull Sales
The dispersal of one of the country’s leading Aberdeen-Angus herds, an Elite Sale of Charolais females and the Big Bull Run charity auction are among the highlights of the October Bull Sales at Stirling this year.
Among the 384 pedigree bull entries, Simmentals are up 35% alongside strong entries of Aberdeen-Angus (up 15%), Beef Shorthorn, Charolais, Hereford, Limousin and Salers.
The Stirling Bull Sales, run by United Auctions, which also includes 96 females on show and sale, will take place from Sunday 18th to Monday 19th October at Stirling Agricultural Centre.
John Roberts, Executive Chairman of United Auctions, said he is looking forward to a very vibrant sale:
“There will be plenty of interest in the strong bull entries across the breeds as well as in the dispersals from some of Scotland’s leading breeders. Buyers will enjoy the opportunity to take home some really good quality stock from this sale. We’re also looking forward to auctioning the giant Charolais Bull steel sculpture in aid of two excellent charities to mark the end of its UK tour. It’s always an exciting few days, and great to bring a large crowd of buyers and sellers to Stirling for the two-day event.”
The sale includes the much-anticipated dispersal of the Deveron herd of Aberdeen-Angus cattle (83 lots), which Hamish and Margaret Sclater of Denhead, near Turriff, are selling ahead of their retirement. Over the last 30 years, the Sclaters have enjoyed huge success with the herd including multiple championships and a number of five-figure sales.
A draft of in-calf heifers from the Skaill herd of Aberdeen-Angus cattle (Colin J Davidson) will also take place on Monday following the dispersal of the Cairnview herd of Simmental cattle (AJ Wilson) of two cows with calves at foot.
The Elite sale of Charolais females sees an excellent entry of seven elite heifers, many with show potential. They will be sold prior to the Charolais Bulls in Monday’s programme.
A particularly special link for the Charolais at the October Stirling Bull Sales is the auction of a giant steel sculpture of a Charolais Bull for charity. The sculpture was built by County Durham Farmer and President of the Charolais Cattle Society, Stephen Nesbitt, as a project when a heart condition stopped him from farming. Never having done anything like this before, he made the bull from hundreds of lengths of chain welded together.
The sculpture has toured the UK starting at Darlington Farmers Auction Mart in May 2026 and to agricultural events across the UK, including the Cereals Event at Diddly Squat Farm. The Big Bull Run tour concludes at the Stirling Bull Sales where it will be auctioned and the proceeds shared between Motor Neurone Disease Association and the British Heart Foundation
“We are delighted that the final destination for the Big Bull Run is at Stirling and it’s very fitting as part of the Charolais Premier,” said Mr Roberts. “We hope to raise a lot of money for both charities and encourage everyone to dig deep for this unique piece of artwork.”
