Helen brings a wealth of hands-on agricultural experience to JCM, built over a career that has taken her from the cattle stations of Australia and New Zealand to farms and estates across the UK. Her background includes jillarooing, calf rearing on her home farm, lambing, and grain carting during the British arable harvest, giving her first-hand insight into a wide range of farming systems.
A highlight of her early career was a placement year with what was then Harper Adams College, spent farming at Highgrove, where she worked with organic dairy and beef cattle, sheep, vegetables, grass, and cereal crops. She went on to earn a BSc (Hons) in Countryside and Environmental Management from Harper Adams University and in 2011 completed the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists Award, before spending a decade with the NFU – understanding and influencing government policy for farmers in the West Midlands. She joined JCM in 2023, bringing with her a unique blend of practical farming knowledge and industry insight.
When she's not working with the JCM team, Helen manages her own small herd of Hereford cattle and growing flock of free-range chooks, is a committee member of the Blymhill Agricultural Discussion Group and Vice Chairman of the Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society – South Staffordshire District. Passionate about agriculture and the people who make it happen, she is a strong advocate for the opportunities, innovation, and future of the farming industry.
